| An Evening With David
Freeman & Mystery Guest Artist |
||
|
In the early years, about the age of 10, David Freeman’s older brother brought home a mandolin and demonstrated a few basic chords. A year later a four string banjo appeared, and the learning continued. But when a guitar showed up, it had a greater impact. Even though the playing was more difficult, this was the instrument of choice.
In 1974, David bought a new Gibson J-40 and planned on continuing. But life, work, and other hobbies got in the way and the guitar sat in the corner and gathered dust. After retirement in 2003, a set of new strings and a solid intention led to many hours of practice and song-writing.
At first, the best way to play was in remote campsites with only squirrels and ravens for an audience. The pleasure of creating new sounds took over and developed into a serious purs uit.
After playing at open stage events all over Vancouver Island, David bought a sound system and started performing with his singing partner, Sussana Hill. That partnership is ongoing and will continue. Now three years later, he’s ready for a solo presentation, to see if there is an audience for his songs and his sound.
Folk music is his pursued goal, both original and cover songs, whatever sounds and feels right. His music is always done for free, wherever it happens. He plays ‘for the love of the song’. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
